Zeena Parkins

Zeena Parkins (born 1956) is an American musician and composer based in New York, primarily known for her innovative approach to the harp. Playing both acoustic and electric harp with preparations, extended techniques, and electronics, she has transformed the instrument into a vehicle for noise, free improvisation, and contemporary composition. A long-standing member of the New York downtown scene, she has collaborated extensively with John Zorn, Yoko Ono, Ikue Mori, and many others. Her work as a composer extends to dance, theatre, and film, and she has received numerous commissions from ensembles and organisations across the US and Europe.
