Zamudin Guchev

Zamudin Guchev is a Circassian musician, craftsman, and cultural guardian based in the Republic of Adygea, Russia. A central figure in the preservation of ancient Adyghe heritage, he founded the ensemble ZHEW to perform on reconstructed traditional Circassian instruments. His revival of the shychepshyn — the Adyghe bowed fiddle — is credited with saving the instrument from disappearance. He also plays the shetcha pshen and Circassian horn, and performs in spaces designed to evoke the traditional Adyghe guesthouse. Most contemporary musicians of the Adyghe tradition were trained by him or shaped by his work.
