Yukio Fujimoto
Yukio Fujimoto (born 1950) is a Japanese sound artist and composer based in Osaka. Working with self-constructed instruments, toys, found objects, and minimal electronics, he develops sound works and installations that draw on the Fluxus tradition while developing a distinctly Japanese aesthetic of small-scale, intimate sonic attention. His constructed instruments — including Ears with Chair (1990), a functional sound work — blur the boundary between sculptural object and musical instrument. He has exhibited and performed internationally and is associated with the Osaka experimental scene that includes figures such as Yasunao Tone.
