Yasushi Utsunomiya
Yasushi Utsunomiya is a Japanese musician, producer, instrument developer, and sound theorist whose work traverses experimental music, recording practice, and acoustic research since the late 1970s. He has collaborated with artists including After Dinner, Shonen Knife, JON & Utsunomiya, and Tenniscoats, developing innovative recording systems integrating technology into musical expression. Utsunomiya investigates the theoretical foundations of music, treating sound as continuous exploration. Through recordings, improvisation, and technical innovations, he is recognized as one of Japan’s most distinctive sonic thinkers, pursuing what he describes as the search for an ultimate form of music.
