Yasumme Morishige
Yasumme Morishige is a Japanese artist and sound practitioner whose work engages with improvisation, extended instrumental technique, and the physical dimensions of performance. Based in Japan and active in experimental music contexts, Morishige participates in a tradition of Japanese free music that connects the bodily act of performance to wider investigations of sound, space, and time. His practice reflects an interest in how performers develop relationships with their instruments and each performance's conditions, treating improvisation as inquiry rather than spontaneity. Working primarily on cello and voice, Morishige collaborates widely with musicians and dancers in Japan and abroad.
