Yan Jun

Yan Jun is a Beijing-based sound artist, poet, and curator whose work has played a pivotal role in the development of experimental music in China. Active as a music critic and underground rock musician in the 1990s, he later turned toward improvisation, field recording, feedback systems, and site-specific sound practices. His performances employ minimal means—microphones, loudspeakers, environmental sounds—to heighten awareness of listening. Through concerts, recordings, writings, and curatorial work, he has fostered dialogue between local and international experimental communities, positioning listening as both an aesthetic and social act.
