Xavier Paes

Xavier Paes is a transdisciplinary artist from Ovar working out of Porto, Portugal, moving between plastic arts, sound, performance and improvisation. Devoted to a "zenoise" philosophy, he treats acoustic phenomena — repetition, resonance, sympathetic vibration, echo — as tools for investigating ecology and lived experience rather than fixed compositional ends. He is active within several Porto collectives, including Favela Discos, Dies Lexic and MOSCXS, and co-directs the experimental orchestra Em Chame. His solo practice premiered in Portugal in 2017, and in 2021 he founded OV/Art Gallery, extending his practice into curating independent space for sound-based work.
