Walter Marchetti

Walter Marchetti (1931–2015) was an Italian composer associated with Zaj, the Spanish Fluxus-adjacent group he co-founded with Juan Hidalgo and Ramón Barce in Madrid in 1964. His compositions — often extremely minimal event scores and conceptual instructions — were produced over decades of activity at the margins of institutional music, with recordings released on Edition Hundertmark and Alga Marghen. His work engaged with silence, duration, and the conceptual gesture rather than sound production, and he maintained a characteristic wit and philosophical playfulness throughout his career. He is among the most important figures in Spanish experimental music.
