Volker Zander
Volker Zander (b. 1968) is a German composer, curator, and radio author based in Cologne. He studied urban planning in Kassel and worked as a landscape architecture designer, while playing bass in the American band Calexico from 1998 to 2012.
In 2005 he founded Apparent Extent, a label producing records and projects with international visual artists. His own work explores field recording and the Trautonium, an early electronic instrument, performed as sonic walks or interventions in architecture and gardens.
Since 2012 Zander has composed music and sound design for theatre, frequently with director Kevin Rittberger. His work has been presented at documenta 14, WIELS in Brussels, and Q-O2.
