Volker Straebel

Volker Straebel, born in 1969 and raised in West Berlin, is a German composer, musicologist, and curator specialising in electroacoustic music and the history of sound art. He studied musicology, philosophy, and library science at the Technische Universität and Humboldt-Universität in Berlin before writing music criticism for Der Tagesspiegel and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung from 1996 to 2002. He served as curatorial advisor to MaerzMusik from 2002 to 2014, and in 2021 became dean of the Herb Alpert School of Music at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles.
