Vaiva Grainyte

Vaiva Grainytė is a Lithuanian playwright, librettist, and artist whose work moves between theater, opera, and performance art with an interest in social and political themes rendered through absurdist and poetic strategies. She co-created Have a Good Day!, an opera about supermarket cashiers, which received international recognition for its combination of documentary and lyrical approaches. Her collaborations with composer Lina Lapelytė and director Rugilė Barzdžiukaitė, including Sun and Sea (Marina), won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 2019. Grainytė's work inhabits the space between the everyday and the theatrical, drawing on the hidden drama of ordinary labor and routine.
