Ursula Block
Ursula Block founded gelbe MUSIK in 1981, a record store in Berlin that occupied a unique position between the worlds of avant-garde music and contemporary art for three decades. It sold artists' records and experimental music but also functioned as a gallery space for scores, sound sculpture, and other intersections of visual art and music, becoming a central institution in Berlin's cultural life.
Block organized several major exhibitions of artists' records outside Gelbe MUSIK, including Extended Play (1988), co-curated with Christian Marclay, and Broken Music, named after an album by Fluxus artist Milan Knížák.
