Ultra-Red

Ultra-Red is a Los Angeles-founded collective established in 1994 by queer activists within the Los Angeles AIDS crisis, using sound as a medium for community organising and political analysis. Rather than producing autonomous art objects, their practice develops what they call "militant sound investigation" — extended listening sessions, field recordings of political space, and audio works produced collectively with specific communities. Active in housing justice, immigration rights, and HIV/AIDS organising, they have produced records and installations in collaboration with communities globally. Their work challenges the separation between art practice and political struggle.
