Txema González

Txema González is a Spanish field recordist and ethnomusicologist based in the Basque Country. His documentary recordings focus on traditional and ceremonial music of Afro-Colombian and other Latin American communities, capturing ritual practices that are often undocumented. His work on Alabaos y Gualíes: Dirges and Funeral Rites in the Afro-Colombian Pacific (Death Is Not The End, 2025), recorded at the Encuentro de Alabaos y Gualíes de Andagoya in Chocó, Colombia, documents alabaos, gualíes, and levantamientos de tumba — burial rites of Afro-Colombian Pacific communities performed to accompany the dead and their relatives.
