Trans Am

Trans Am are an American band from Washington D.C., formed in 1990 by Phil Manley, Sebastian Thomson, and Nathan Means. Beginning as an instrumental post-rock group releasing on Thrill Jockey, they evolved through several phases — embracing electronic music, synthesisers, and a sardonic engagement with 1980s rock idioms — producing a substantial body of work that defies simple categorisation. Albums including Red Line (1997), Futureworld (1999), and TA (1999) demonstrate an ability to move between motorik rock, electro, and satirical hard rock without losing formal coherence. They have remained active and critically respected across more than three decades.
