Tradecraft

Tradecraft is an alias of British producer Guy Brewer, best known for his techno project Shifted and, before that, one half of drum'n'bass duo Commix. Shifted became a defining voice in UK techno's turn toward harsher, noisier and more ambient territory, released largely through his own Avian imprint. Tradecraft surfaced as a transitional guise between Shifted's retirement and the launch of his later alias Carrier, appearing on a surprise cassette, The Body Needs Purpose. Its palette of corroded textures, scratchy ambient passages and technoid meditations traded functional dancefloor tools for something more searching, held together by an undercurrent of darkness alongside unexpected beauty.
