Toshiya Tsunoda

Toshiya Tsunoda is a Japanese sound artist and field recordist born in 1964 in Kanagawa. His practice centres on the investigation of physical vibration — resonance within objects, subsonic frequencies, and the behaviour of air in enclosed spaces — rather than landscape or atmosphere in the conventional field recording sense. Releases on Erstwhile, Presto!?, and his own label document this approach with characteristic rigour. His work has appeared in collaboration with Taku Unami and others, and he has written extensively on his methodology. He is considered one of the most distinctive voices in Japanese sound art.
