Tobias R. Kirstein

Tobias R. Kirstein (b. 1972) is an artist, composer and writer based in Copenhagen. Working with text and sound since the late 1990s, he treats listening as a territorial tool, using tone generators, white noise and recording equipment in performances that can be physically confrontational or installations pitched at near-inaudible thresholds. He co-founded and booked for MAYHEM, a pivotal Copenhagen venue for extreme and experimental music, and in 2019 formed TOPOS with Jacob Kirkegaard and Niels Lyhne Løkkegaard to pursue cross-disciplinary sound work. With Kasper Opstrup he has translated William S. Burroughs into Danish. His work has toured Egypt, the US, Japan, Russia and Europe.
