Tim Ingold
Tim Ingold (b. 1948) is a British social anthropologist whose theoretical work has been widely influential in art, design, architecture, and sound studies. His book Lines: A Brief History (2007) proposed a reconceptualisation of line as a mode of movement and wayfaring rather than a boundary between surfaces, a reframing with implications for how drawing, music, narrative, and walking are understood. His concept of wayfaring — knowing the world by moving along paths rather than surveying it from a distance — and his engagement with skill and material culture have provided frameworks for artists thinking about process, inscription, and the relation between bodies, tools, and materials.
