The Space Lady

The Space Lady is the alias of Susan Dietrich Schneider, an American busker and performer who performed in San Francisco and Boston from the late 1970s through the 2000s. Wearing a winged helmet and flowing robes, she covered rock and pop songs on a Casio keyboard with a wah-wah pedal, developing a naive, otherworldly sound that attracted a devoted following. Her Greatest Hits (2014, Sacred Bones) compiled recordings made from audience tapes and drew widespread attention, belatedly recognising her as a unique practitioner of outsider and lo-fi electronic folk. She continues to perform occasionally.
