The Slackers
The Slackers are an American ska and reggae band from New York City, formed in 1991. Drawing on Jamaican rocksteady and ska alongside soul and rhythm and blues, they developed a sound that is warmer and more melodic than the frantic pace of British two-tone, closer to the original Jamaican tradition. Albums including Better Late Than Never (1996), Wasted Days (1996), and Redline (1999) on Hellcat Records established them as one of the most accomplished and authentic American ska bands, with consistent touring keeping them active and respected in ska and reggae underground circles into the present.
