The Hafler Trio
The Hafler Trio is essentially the solo project of Andrew M. McKenzie, born 1963 in Scotland, active since 1982. Conceptually framed as a trio — including fictional scientist Dr. Edward Moolenbeek and initial collaborator Chris Watson — the project spans electronic, cut-up, ambient, musique concrète, and audio montage. Collaborators over four decades include Steven Stapleton, David Tibet, Genesis P-Orridge, Z'EV, Michael Gira, Autechre, and Jónsi. Releases are characterised by dense liner notes and a sustained philosophical and theoretical framework inseparable from the music.
