The Great Learning Orchestra
The Great Learning Orchestra is a Stockholm-based improvising ensemble led by Magnus Granberg, active since the early 2000s. Taking its name from Cornelius Cardew's experimental composition, the ensemble works in the tradition of minimal improvisation and composed indeterminacy, developing slowly evolving collective music drawing on contemporary composition and non-idiomatic free improvisation. They have released on Potlatch and other European labels dedicated to quiet and patient sound. Their practice is marked by sensitivity to listening, duration, and collective decision-making.
