The Deontic Miracle

The Deontic Miracle was a just-intonation live-electronic ensemble led by Catherine Christer Hennix (1948–2023), Swedish composer, mathematician, philosopher, and visual artist. Central Palace Music — a recording from an eight-day festival at the Museum of Modern Art, Stockholm, in 1976, later released by Important Records — features Hennix on Renaissance oboe and sinewave generators alongside Peter Hennix and Hans Isgren. A key figure of the Downtown School alongside La Monte Young and Henry Flynt, Hennix synthesised minimalism, just intonation, mathematical logic, and Sufi spirituality.
