The Bran Flakes

The Bran Flakes are an American audio collage duo comprising Otis Fodder and Ergo Phizmiz, later joined by others, based in San Francisco. Working with found recordings — vintage radio broadcasts, children's records, instructional albums, library music — they construct warmly comic and surrealist collages that operate in the tradition of plunderphonics. Albums including I'll Eat You Last (2003) and My Beautiful Nightmare (2005) demonstrate a genuine affection for the source materials even as they are radically recontextualised. Their work occupies a gentle corner of the sample-based experimental tradition, combining Dadaist disruption with a playful sensibility.
