The Avalanches

The Avalanches are an Australian production duo formed in Melbourne in 1997 by Robbie Chater and Tony Di Blasi, now working alongside multi-instrumentalist Andy Szekeres. Their debut Since I Left You (2000), built from thousands of obscure samples, became a landmark of plunderphonics, turning crate-digging into lush, narrative collage. After sixteen years of legal and creative delays, Wildflower (2016) arrived with guests including Danny Brown, MF Doom and David Berman, followed by We Will Always Love You (2020), addressed to the dead and dedicated to Berman. Their sound treats memory itself as raw material, reanimating forgotten records into euphoric new songs.
