Terre Thaemlitz

Minnesota-born and based in Kawasaki, Japan, Terre Thaemlitz is a musician, DJ, writer, and founder of the label Comatonse Recordings whose work combines electronic music with sustained theoretical writing on gender, sexuality, class, and identity. Known also as DJ Sprinkles, they became resident at New York's trans club Sally's II in the early 1990s. The 2008 album Midtown 120 Blues was named Resident Advisor's album of the year and is regarded as a landmark of deep house. Thaemlitz identifies as non-binary and switches pronouns deliberately as part of a critique of gender essentialism.
