Teresa Margolles
Teresa Margolles (b. 1963, Culiacán, Sinaloa) is a Mexican artist whose work directly engages with the material reality of violent death, using bodily fluids, water from morgue washdowns, and objects retrieved from crime scenes to create works that refuse the aestheticization of violence and force a confrontation with the human cost of social crisis in Mexico and beyond.
A former member of the collective SEMEFO (Servicio Médico Forense), which worked with cadavers and forensic materials in the early 1990s, Margolles has continued this trajectory as a solo artist. She has represented Mexico at the Venice Biennale and has exhibited at major institutions worldwide.
