Takehisa Kosugi

Takehisa Kosugi (1938–2018) was a Japanese musician, composer, and visual artist, one of the key figures in Fluxus in Japan and internationally. Co-founder of the Taj Mahal Travellers in 1969 — a collective producing long, drone-based improvisations informed by Indian music and free jazz — he was also a prolific composer of event scores and graphic works in the Fluxus tradition. Later in his career he became musical director of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, collaborating closely with Cunningham and his circle. His electronic and violin-based solo works remain radical documents of post-Cage music practice.
