Takahiro Kawaguchi

Takahiro Kawaguchi (born 1981) is a Japanese sound artist and improviser based in Kyoto. Working with objects, surfaces, and carefully constructed performance situations, he develops a practice of extreme quietness and attention — placing small objects in relationship to contact microphones and amplification to produce barely audible events of great textural complexity. He has collaborated with artists including Taku Unami, Toshimaru Nakamura, and Burkhard Stangl, and releases music on Erstwhile Records and other labels dedicated to minimal improvisation. His work continues the Japanese post-Onkyō tradition of listening to the edges of sound.
