Syntoma

Founded in Mexico City in 1980 by Alex Eisenring, Syntoma was among the earliest and most distinctive projects in the Mexican underground electronic scene, operating primarily as a trio through 1981–84. Drawing on rock, jazz, and progressive backgrounds, Eisenring built the project around synthesizers and drum machines at a time when such equipment was scarce and expensive in Mexico, with gear frequently passed between the nascent scene's participants. The resulting recordings — collected on a self-titled album released by EM Records — combine minimal synth, post-punk, and pop forms with a harmonic adventurousness and atmosphere distinct from their European contemporaries.
