Stock, Hausen & Walkman

Stock, Hausen & Walkman is the long-running trio of Matt Wand, Andrew Sharpley, and the late Anthony Burnham, active since the early 1990s. Working with tape collage, rapid cut-up editing, found audio, cheap electronics, and broadcast material, the group developed one of the most distinctive voices in British experimental music — assemblages of bewildering density and speed, in which fragments of speech, music, noise, and processed sound are compressed into intensely structured pieces. Releases on Hot Air, Staalplaat, and related labels document a practice that treats the edit itself as the primary compositional act.
