Stereolab
Stereolab was a London-based group formed in 1990 by Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, drawing members from London and Paris. Working at the intersection of krautrock motorik rhythms, French pop, lounge music, and leftist politics, they developed a distinctive sound centred on organ drones, repetition, and Sadier's bilingual vocals. Releases on Duophonic and Elektra throughout the 1990s — Peng! (1992), Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements (1993), Emperor Tomato Ketchup (1996) — made them defining figures of the alternative and indie milieu. They went on hiatus in 2009 following the death of keyboardist Mary Hansen, and returned to recording and touring in 2019.
