Stas Shärifulla
Stas Shärifulla, also known as HMOT, is a Bashkir/Russian, Siberian-born musician, researcher and sound artist based in Basel. Holding a PhD in Philology, he works at the intersection of critical sound studies and "action-based sonic ethnography," collecting field recordings and processing them through modular synthesizers and visual programming to push electronic music past familiar genre borders. His research addresses decoloniality and inequality across non-Western imperialisms. He co-leads the Klammklang label, won Russia's Sergey Kuryokhin Award, and has taught at Moscow's Higher School of Economics and UdK Berlin. He often collaborates with fellow Bashkir artist Ziliä Qansurá.
