Splitter Orchester

Splitter Orchester is a Berlin-based large ensemble for improvised and composed music, founded in April 2010 by Clare Cooper, Clayton Thomas, and Gregor Hotz. Rooted in the city's Echtzeitmusik scene, the collective comprises around twenty musicians of ten nationalities, organised by direct-democratic principles with no conductor or central authority. Members simultaneously act as composers, performers, and improvisers, working the borderland between notation and improvisation using extended techniques across acoustic, electronic, and custom instruments. They have collaborated with George Lewis, Mathias Spahlinger, and Jean-Luc Guionnet, and released on Mikroton Recordings.
