Smegma

Smegma is an American free improvisation and noise collective active since 1973, formed in Pasadena before relocating to Portland — one of the longest-running experimental music groups in the United States. As part of the Los Angeles Free Music Society, they have maintained a commitment to collective improvisation, free jazz, found sound, and noise across recordings and performances spanning five decades. Their releases draw on the traditions of American free music, Fluxus, and Dadaism, while their openness to later developments in noise and post-industrial music keeps their practice in dialogue with younger generations of experimental musicians discovering the group's vast archive.
