Sleaford Mods
An English post-punk duo formed in Nottingham in 2007, built around the words of vocalist Jason Williamson and, from 2012, the deliberately minimal backing tracks of Andrew Fearn. Williamson began developing the project in 2005 at Rubber Biscuit Studio in Nottingham; the two met that year when Williamson heard Fearn performing in a Chameleon club basement. Their breakthrough albums Austerity Dogs (2013) and Divide and Exit (2014) established a template: acerbic, ranting lyrics over looped beats and bass, constituting one of contemporary music's most sustained critiques of austerity-era Britain. Their 2023 album UK Grim reached number three on the UK Albums Chart.
