Skinny Puppy
Formed in 1982 in Vancouver, Canada by cEvin Key (Kevin Crompton) and Nivek Ogre (Kevin Ogilvie), Skinny Puppy pioneered electro-industrial music with dark, cinematic soundscapes, distorted vocals, aggressive sampling and confrontational themes drawn from horror films, animal rights and societal critique. Initially a side project while Key was in Images in Vogue, the band evolved into a full entity with contributions from Dwayne Goettel, Bill Leeb and producer Dave "Rave" Ogilvie. Their multi-layered electronics and intense live performances — often featuring theatrical elements like vivisection imagery — heavily influenced industrial rock and acts such as Nine Inch Nails.
