Sissy Spacek

Founded in Los Angeles in 1999, the project centres on John Wiese alongside long-running collaborator Charlie Mumma and an expanded cast of participants. Since their self-titled 2001 debut on Chondrotic Sound, they have released hundreds of recordings across formats and labels — including Hospital Productions, Wiese's own Helicopter imprint, and Gilgongo Records — encompassing harsh noise, noisecore, grindcore, free improvisation, and musique concrète. The prolific and deliberately unstable output treats grindcore as a conceptual chassis rather than a fixed genre, shooting tangents toward the outer limits of sonic extremity and, more recently, fragile electro-acoustic collage.
