Simon Whetham
A British artist who began capturing field recordings on a research trip to Iceland in 2005, he has since built a practice treating environmental sound as raw material for composition, performance, and installation. He has twice received Grants for the Arts from Arts Council England — the first supporting a residency at the Mamori Sound Project in the Brazilian Amazon in 2007, the second funding the ongoing cultural exchange programme Active Crossover. He has performed and exhibited internationally at events including the Fresh Winds Biennale in Iceland, Tsonami Festival in Chile, and Nakanojo Biennale in Japan, with releases across numerous specialist labels.
