Simon Larbalestier

Simon Larbalestier is a Welsh photographer, born 1962 in Pembrokeshire, who studied at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1987. His degree-show images became the sleeve for the Pixies' Come On Pilgrim, launching a long collaboration with designer Vaughan Oliver and the 4AD studios 23 Envelope and v23; he went on to shoot Surfer Rosa, Doolittle and Bossanova. Working mostly in black and white with hand-toned darkroom prints, he favours decayed textures, uncanny juxtapositions and images of emptiness and desolation. Based in Bangkok since 2001, he has continued documentary work around Angkor Wat and recently completed a doctorate at the University of Chester.
