Silver Apples
Silver Apples was an American electronic duo formed in New York in 1967 by Simeon Coxe III, who built and played the Simeon — a homemade instrument of nine oscillators, telegraph keys, and surplus electronic parts — and drummer Danny Taylor. Their fusion of oscillator drone, found sound, and driving percussion anticipated krautrock and electronic dance music.
Their albums Silver Apples (1968) and Contact (1969) sold poorly and the duo split in 1970, but were later hailed as foundational to American experimental music. They reunited in 1996; after a 1998 van crash nearly killed Coxe, Taylor rejoined before dying of cancer in 2005. Coxe continued as Silver Apples until his death in 2020.
