Sigur Rós

Sigur Rós are an Icelandic band formed in Reykjavík in 1994, led by vocalist and guitarist Jónsi (Jón Þór Birgisson). Their music combines orchestral post-rock, falsetto singing often in Icelandic or the invented language Vonlenska, and sustained glacial textures. Albums including Ágætis byrjun (1999), ( ) (2002), and Takk... (2005) brought them international recognition. Their sound, deeply embedded in Icelandic landscape and mythology, has been widely cited as a reference for post-rock and ambient music. Jónsi also maintains a solo practice.
