Siete Catorce
Born in Mexicali and raised partly in Oakland before returning to Mexico at fifteen, Marco Polo Gutierrez developed his Siete Catorce alias in Tijuana after a 2011 encounter with the city's ruidosón scene — a movement whose dark, hypnotic energy reshaped his earlier output in cumbia and dubstep. His tracks layer tribal guarachero rhythms, pre-Hispanic percussion, and ominous piano motifs into a distinctive northern Mexican electronic sound. His remix of Celso Piña's Cumbia Poder brought him to the attention of the global bass community, and in 2018 he co-founded the SUBREAL label alongside producer Stella Ahn.
