Sepultura
Sepultura are a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in Belo Horizonte in 1984 by brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, whose work from the early 1990s brought Brazilian metal to global attention. Their albums Beneath the Remains (1989) and Arise (1991) established them within thrash metal, but Chaos A.D. (1993) and Roots (1996) defined their key contribution: integrating indigenous Brazilian percussion, Afro-Brazilian rhythms, and tribal instrumentation with extreme metal. Roots—recorded partly with the Xavante people of Mato Grosso—became one of the most influential metal albums of the decade, shaping the emerging nu metal movement while bringing wider attention to the Xavante themselves.
