Sensorband
Sensorband was an international new media and performance trio comprising Edwin van der Heide (Netherlands), Zbigniew Karkowski (Poland/Japan), and Atau Tanaka (Japan/UK/France). Active from 1993 to 2003, they developed performances using body sensors, gloves, ultrasound systems, and physical interaction to control sound in real time — music produced through gesture, breath, and bodily movement translated into electronic signal. Their work was at the forefront of gestural and interface-based electronic music, performed internationally at major festivals. Karkowski's death in 2013 made any reunion impossible; their archive documents a decade of pioneering work.
