Rod Cooper
A Melbourne-based artist and instrument builder, he began exploring the sonic possibilities of self-made metallic instruments while studying sculpture at Victoria College, Prahran, between 1985 and 1988. Each of his instruments — constructed from found materials, with each piece taking up to three years to design and several weeks to build — is conceived as both a sound-producing object and a composition in itself. He has performed in the UK, USA, Japan, New Zealand, and Indonesia, and his recorded output includes the albums Friction (2004), Accepting the Machines (2009), and Magnets on Blank Tapes (2012).
