Roberta Settels
Born in New York in 1929, she studied at the Juilliard School of Music and the Art Students League before relocating to Europe. She worked through the 1970s and 1980s at EMS in Stockholm and at IRCAM in Paris, collaborating with Iannis Xenakis and Pierre Boulez. Describing her work as music for spiritual survival, she composed for tape, electronics, film, TV, and radio. Her best-known work is the 1985 LP Isolation! Meinhof In Memoriam, an electronic composition memorialising Red Army Faction co-founder Ulrike Meinhof, self-released on her own label Music in Crisis. She died in 2014.
