Robert Hood

Robert Hood, born 1965, emerged from Detroit's second techno wave as a founding member of Underground Resistance, serving as "Minister of Information" alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, the collective performing masked, in combat gear, with militant rhetoric. In 1992 he left both Detroit and the group with Mills to record as H&M and X-103. In 1994 he founded the label M-Plant and released Minimal Nation, a stark, loop-driven record widely credited as the founding document of minimal techno. He later produced disco-inflected house as Floorplan and abstract material as Monobox, consistently pairing his music with outreach and activism addressing Detroit's inner-city communities.
