Robert Filliou
Born in Sauve, France, in 1926, he joined the Communist Party at seventeen, later earned an economics degree at UCLA while working for Coca-Cola in Los Angeles, and spent years as a United Nations economic adviser in Korea and Egypt. In the early 1960s he became central to the international Fluxus movement and, with George Brecht, coined the concept of the Eternal Network, a vision of art as a permanent, universal process embedded in everyday life. With Brecht he opened a workshop called La Cedille qui Sourit in Villefranche-sur-Mer in 1965. He died in a monastery in Les Eyzies in December 1987.
